RESUMEN

Los tumores odontogénicos queratoquísticos (TOQQ) representan entre el 2 al 11%de todos los quistes de la mandíbula y pueden presentarse a cualquier edad, con un pico en la segunda y tercera década de vida, y muestra una alta predilección por los hombres de raza blanca. Se presenta un caso clínico de un paciente varón, con un tumor odontogénico queratoquístico localizado en la mandíbula en el lado derecho. Se exponen los métodos utilizados para la exploración clínica, radiológica y el tratamiento quirúrgico elegido. El queratoquiste odontogénico ha sido redefinido por la Organización Mundial de la Saludo (OMS) como una entidad tumoral, y su tratamiento debe ser considerado como el de una neoplasia. Tienen más tendencia a recidivar que otros quistes odontogénicos, por ello es esencial el tratamiento quirúrgico minucioso y un seguimiento evolutivo de larga duración (AU)

ABSTRACT

The keratocysticodontogenic tumours(KCOT) represent between 2 and 11% of all the cysts of the mandible and may occuratany age, with a peak in the second and third decade of life, and show a high predilection for white males. A clinical case is presented of a male patient, with a keratocystic odontogenic tumour located in the mandible on the rightside. The methods used for the clinical andradiological examination and the chosen surgical treatment are explained.The odontogenic keratocyst has been redefined by the World health Organisation(WhO) as a tumour, and its treatment must be considered as that of a neoplasm. They tend to recur more than other odontogeniccysts, for this reason meticulous surgical treatment and long-term monitoring of progress is essential (AU)
