RESUMEN
A cien años de la tesis doctoral de Thorndike, se abre una nueva oportunidad para reflexionar sobre los fundamentos del estudio de la evolución del aprendizaje. Durante las últimas décadas, dichos estudios han estado influenciados por un enfoque ecológico que enfatiza el significado adaptativo del aprendizaje. Avances recientes en biología evolutiva demuestran un alto grado de conservación del genotipo y fenotipo de especies divergentes. Estos descubrimientos proporcionan una base biológica al enfoque de procesos generales que Thorndike propuso en su tesis y según el cual los mecanismos de aprendizaje serían comunes a un amplio espectro de especies (AU)
ABSTRACT
A hundred years after Thorndike’s dissertation, the comparative psychology of learning seems ready for a reassessment of its foundations. Research has been influenced in recent decades by an ecological view that emphasizes adaptive significance. Recent progress in evolutionary biology suggests that many aspects of the genotype and phenotype of widely divergent species are strikingly stable. Such findings provide a sound biological basis for the type of general-process view of learning advocated by Thorndike in his dissertation, according to which learning mechanisms are common to a wide range of species (AU)
