ABSTRACT
The CARDIORISC project has allowed wider use of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) in distinct healthcare levels, as well as greater knowledge of the characteristics of hypertensive patients. Due to the size of the sample, distinct cross-sectional analyses from the CARDIORISC project have resulted in novel and robust data on the prevalence and characteristics of patients with isolated office hypertension, blood pressure control, and circadian patterns. Nevertheless, a longitudinal, prospective study is required to evaluate the predictive value of blood pressure values measured by ABPM, as well as the effects of treatment-induced changes on the development of cardiovascular disease in high-risk hypertensive patients, characterized by diabetes or prediabetes. We describe the main objectives and methodology of the EVOLVE study, which aims to elucidate the predictive value of blood pressure (AU)
