ABSTRACT
Splenic artery aneurysm is the most common visceral artery aneurysm. Rupture of an aneurysm during pregnancy is a rare and serious event, occurring mainly during the third trimester. Maternal and fetal mortality rates remain extremely high. We report the case of a 16-year-old woman at 30 weeks’ gestation with spontaneous rupture of a splenic artery aneurysm who underwent emergency laparotomy. Proximal ligation of the splenic artery was performed followed by splenectomy. A diagnosis of ruptured splenic artery aneurysm is an important part of the differential diagnosis in haemodynamically unstable pregnant women and should be considered in any pregnant patient who complains of sudden epigastric or upper abdominal pain, with or without haemodynamic shock
