El papel mediador de los esquemas desadaptativos tempranos entre los estilos parentales y los síntomas de depresión / The mediating role of early maladaptive schemas between parenting styles and depression symptoms

RESUMEN

Diversos estudios han confirmado la relación entre algunos estilos parentales tempranos y el desarrollo posterior de sintomatología depresiva. El objetivo del presente estudio fue analizar qué esquemas desadaptativos tempranos (EDT) (Young, 1999) actúan como mediadores entre los dominios de estilos parentales planteados por Young (1999) y el desarrollo de síntomas de depresión. Se utilizó una muestra de 310 estudiantes universitarios uruguayos. Se aplicó el "Inventario de estilos parentales de Young" (Young Parenting Inventory, YPI; Young, 1999), el "Cuestionario de esquemas de Young-Forma Reducida" (Schema Questionnaire-Short Form, SQ-SF; Young y Brown, 1994) y el "Listado de síntomas breves" (LSB-50, De Rivera y Abuín (2012). Los resultados de los análisis de regresión arrojaron que los EDT de abandono, aislamiento e insuficiente autocontrol actúan como mediadores entre los estilos parentales percibidos pertenecientes a los dominios de Desconexión/rechazo y de Autonomía deteriorada, tanto de la madre como del padre y los síntomas de depresión. Estos resultados confirman los hallazgos de investigaciones previas indicando que los EDT median la relación entre estilos parentales y síntomas de depresión

ABSTRACT

Several studies have identified a relationship between early parenting styles and the development of depression symptoms. The aim of this study was to analyze whether early maladaptive schemas (EMS) (Young, 1999) act as mediators between the domains of early parental styles proposed by Young (1999), and the development of symptoms of depression. A sample of 310 Uruguayan university students completed the questionnaire. The following assessment instruments were applied the Young Parenting Inventory (YPI; Young, 1999), the Schema Questionnaire-Short Form (SQ-SF; Young & Brown, 1994), and the Brief Symptom Check List (LSB-50; De Rivera & Abuín, 2012). The results of multiple regression analysis showed that for both parents the EMS of abandonment, social isolation and insufficient self-control mediate the relationship between early perceived parenting styles (from the domains of Disconnection and rejection and Impaired autonomy) and symptoms of depression for both parents. These results confirm the findings of previous research indicating that EDT mediates the relationship between parental styles and symptoms of depression
