Introduction:
Many of the patients who come to the consultation to stop smoking do not return to the second visit, so they do not initiate treatment. Objective:
An attempt was made to determine the differential characteristics of the latter population regarding the patients who did initiate treatment. Patients andmethods:
1484 patients came to the Smoking Habit Specialized Treatment Unit of the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario of Albacete from 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2012. The Chi-squared and the Fisher exact test were used for qualitative variables and the Student T test for quantitative variables and a logistic regression was performed to avoid confounding variables. Significance level was established with a p < 0.05.Results:
A total of 1484 patients were included in the study. Of these, 731 abandoned treatment wihout coming to the second visit, this accounting for 49.26% of the total. It was not observed that any variable significantly affected the result in the logistic regressions model made. Conclusion:
There are many patients who, in spite of coming to the first visit, do not continue with the treatment. This supposes a failure we need to study
