ABSTRACT
Dyspnea on exercise is a major problem in COPD patients, which progressively limits the performance of physical activity. This cause a decrease in the quality of life and a worse prognosis of the disease. Non-invasive ventilation (NIMV) has been shown to improve exercise tolerance and reduce dyspnea in these patients. We present the efficacy of portable NIMV on demand during physical activity in COPD, with the Vitabreath(R) device, a portable pressure-ventilator, with a fixed regulation of 18 cm H2O inspiratory pressure and 8 cm H2O expiratory pressure, designed for be used on demand by COPD patients during the development of activities. Our results have shown that it can be a useful device to improve tolerance to exercise in COPD patients
