Conocimiento médico sobre el niño con neumonía: consistencia con las recomendaciones / Medical knowledge about the child with pneumonia: consistency with recommendations

RESUMEN

INTRODUCCIÓN: La evaluación de las guías de atención al niño con neumonía ha basado sus resultados fundamentalmente sobre el uso de los antimicrobianos, pero poco se sabe del conocimiento que estos médicos poseen para la adecuada atención del niño. El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar el nivel de conocimientos sobre el abordaje que los médicos tuvieron sobre el niño con neumonía y contrastarlo con las recomendaciones tanto nacionales como internacionales. MATERIALES Y MÉTODO: Se realizó un estudio observacional, transversal por medio de un cuestionario anónimo, con el que se evaluaron los conocimientos sobre el diagnóstico y el tratamiento. Los resultados del cuestionario fueron ponderados. La prueba chi cuadrado y el análisis de varianza de una vía se usó para estimar la relación entre los resultados del cuestionario con la edad del médico, el sitio donde laboraba, el nivel académico y los pacientes evaluados por semana. RESULTADOS: Se evaluaron 200 médicos; el 43% fueron médicos internos. Con significación estadística, el nivel de conocimientos se relacionó de forma positiva con el nivel académico y de forma negativa con la edad del médico y del sitio donde laboraba. CONCLUSIÓN: Se logró establecer la poca adecuación de las guías y recomendaciones para la asistencia al niño con neumonía en una subpoblación médica, por lo que este estudio se considera el primer paso para lograr implementar políticas destinadas a mejorar la calidad y el nivel de conocimientos como condición para modificar la morbimortalidad en el estado Sucre

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The evaluation of child care guidelines with pneumonia has based its results mainly on the use of antimicrobials, little is known about the knowledge that these doctors have for the adequate care of the child. The aim of the study was to assess the level of knowledge about the approach that physicians had on the child with pneumonia and compare them with national and international recommendations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An observational, cross-sectional study was carried out by means of an anonymous questionnaire, with which the knowledge about diagnosis and treatment was evaluated. The results of the questionnaire were weighted. The Chi square test and the one-way analysis of variance were used to estimate the relationship between the results of the questionnaire with the age of the doctor, the place where he worked, the academic level and the patients evaluated per week. RESULTS: Two hundred doctors were evaluated, 43% were internal doctors. It was achieved with statistical significance that the level of knowledge was positively related to the academic level and in a negative way with the age of the doctor and the place where he worked. CONCLUSION: It was possible to establish the inadequacy of the guidelines and recommendations for assistance to children with pneumonia in a medical subpopulation, which is why this study is considered the first step to implement policies aimed at improving the quality and level of knowledge as a condition to modify morbidity and mortality in the Sucre state
