Estudio de la mortalidad infantil por tétanos en España / Study of infant mortality from tetanus in Spain

RESUMEN

Objetivo: El objetivo del presente estudio es conocer la evolución de la mortalidad por tétanos infantil en España, con especial referencia al tétanos neonatal. El estudio realizado comprende desde el año 1951 hasta el 2009, último año del que se disponen datos. Métodos: Los datos con los que se ha trabajado, han sido tomados de las publicaciones y la página web del Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE). Resultados: Los resultados muestran una tendencia decreciente de la mortalidad infantil por tétanos a lo largo de los años estudiados y hasta 1982, año a partir del cual no se registran casos. Conclusiones: La mortalidad infantil por tétanos en España que ha constituido aproximadamente un tercio del total de muertes por tétanos, ha disminuido hasta prácticamente desparecer, debido sin duda a las campañas de vacunación infantil(AU)

ABSTRACT

Aim: The objective of this study is to determine the evolution of infant tetanus mortality in Spain, with special reference to neonatal tetanus. The study covers from 1951 to 2009, the latest year with available data. Methods: The collected data have been taken from publications and The National Statistics Institute website (INE). Results: Results show a declining trend in infant mortality from tetanus over the studied years and until year 1982, after which more cases are not recorded. Conclusions: The mortality from tetanus in Spain which has been approximately one third of all deaths from tetanus, has declined to almost disappear, due to the childhood immunization campaigns(AU)
