ABSTRACT
The use of devices for percutaneous clossure of atrial septal defects (ASD) and patent foramen ovale (PFO) is presented in their technical aspects and description of the devices used. The cardioseal and the Amplatzer experience in our unit and meaningfull series in the literature are described. Our conclusion is that if the cost of the devices would decrease in Chile, the experience would increase to such point that the regular practice of percutaneous clossure of ASD will be the first choice, eliminating the need for open heart surgery, hospital stay and decreasing costs after all
