RESUMO
The authors present a new method of internal lengthening applied to a growth plate affected by Type II Salter Harris displaced fractures, with injury at the distal femur growth plate. There is a step-by-step description of technique applied in desepiphysiodesis and deformity correction. The authors point out the advantages of the fixation with that special plate together with the internal lengthening device (ILD) developed by the Oncology Orthopedic Group from the Faculdade de Medicina, Santa Casa de São Paulo. That system of osteosynthesis works as a tutor to avoid the recurrence of deformity and prevent ratational and angular deformities, although it does not block the bone growth of the physeal plate. At the beginning, the Internal Lengthening Device (ILD)was employed in reconstructions for the surgical treatment for tumor lesions of long bones in affected children without epiphyseal tumor invasion. It has been suggested for other cases of bone reconstructions in children, such as congenital deformities, sequelae from traumatic injuries, or infection. The purpose of this study is to show the applications of the Internal Lengthening Device in Cases of bone deformity of skeletally immature children.
