RESUMEN

La apendicitis aguda es la urgencia quirúrgica abdominal más frecuente. En el Hospital Universitario Calixto García, en el período entre 1998 y 2002, se registraron 23 129 ingresos en el Servicio de Cirugía General. De estos, 2 173 fueron diagnosticados de apendicitis aguda (9 por ciento), lo cual representa un promedio de 434,6 pacientes nuevos cada año y constituye el 15 por ciento de las urgencias. Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo con el objetivo de comparar los resultados de la aplicación de la cirugía videolaparoscópica respecto a la convencional en pacientes con apendicitis aguda, en el cual se analizaron diferentes variables en los períodos preoperatorio, transoperatorio y posoperatorio. Para determinar la causa del abdomen agudo quirúrgico se realizaron laparoscopias diagnósticas a 74 (36 por ciento) de los 204 pacientes incluidos en este estudio y sólo en 5 de ellos el diagnóstico no fue acertado (7 por ciento), lo que corrobora la utilidad del procedimiento. Se demostró la eficacia de la videolaparoscopia en el tratamiento de la apendicitis aguda y sus ventajas con relación a la vía convencional(AU)

ABSTRACT

The sharp appendicitis is the most frequent abdominal surgical urgency. In the University Hospital Calixto García, in the period between 1998 and 2002, registered 23 129 revenues in the Service of General Surgery. Of these, 2 173 were diagnosed of sharp appendicitis (9 percent), that which represents an average of 434,6 new patients every year and it constitutes 15 percent of the urgencies. He/she was carried out a retrospective study with the objective of comparing the results of the application of the surgery videolaparoscópica regarding the conventional one in patient with sharp appendicitis, in which different variables were analyzed in the periods preoperatorio, transoperatorio and posoperatorio. To determine the cause of the surgical sharp abdomen they were carried out laparoscopias diagnósticas at 74 (36 percent) of the 204 patients included in this study and only in 5 of them the diagnosis was not guessed right (7 percent), what corroborates the utility of the procedure. The effectiveness of the videolaparoscopia was demonstrated in the treatment of the sharp appendicitis and its advantages with relationship to the conventional road(AU)
