ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was describe a surgical protocol to evaluate the outcome following the application of enamel matrix protein (EMP) in the treatment of intrabony defects. Three patients with three 2-walled intrabony defects were selected. All patients received instructions about oral hygiene, and the roots were scaled and planed. During the surgery, the defects were debrided and the root surfaces adjacent to the defects were applied the EMP. After 12 months, the clinical outcomes showed a reduction of probing pocket depths, gain in the clinical attachment level and augment of gingival recession. The radigraphics results showed a hard tissue formation. These results suggest that the described technique to utilizing of EMP is simple to use and shows favorable clinical and radigraphics results in the treatment of intrabony defects.
