RESUMEN
Se efectuó un estudio descriptivo y prospectivo sobre los resultados de la cirugía mayor ambulatoria en pacientes atendidos y diagnosticados en el Cuerpo de Guardia del Hospital Provincial Docente Dr Joaquín Castillo Duany de Santiago de Cuba desde enero del 2003 hasta junio del 2007, por presentar afecciones quirúrgicas de urgencia, con vista a mostrar las ventajas de esta modalidad operatoria. Además de los exámenes complementarios indispensables para el diagnóstico preoperatorio y la ejecución del acto quirúrgico, los pacientes fueron aglutinados según la Sociedad Americana de Anestesiología en los grupos I y II. En la casuística predominaron los hombres jóvenes de 15-30 años (55,3 por ciento), la apendicitis aguda como afección (51,5 por ciento), la cirugía laparoscópica como procedimiento (en 96 del total) y la anestesia general orotraqueal como técnica anestésica (80,6 por ciento). La ocurrencia de escasas complicaciones (3,8 por ciento) garantizó la evolución favorable de 228 de las 237 personas operadas.
ABSTRACT
A descriptive and prospective study was carried out on the results of the ambulatory major surgery in patients who were attended and diagnosed in the emergency room of Dr Joaquín Castillo Duany Teaching Provincial Hospital in Santiago de Cuba from January, 2003 to June, 2007, who presented surgical emergency injuries, with the objective of showing the advantages of this surgical modality. Besides the indispensable additional tests for the preoperative diagnosis and the surgical intervention, the patients were grouped according to the American Society of Anesthesiology in groups I and II. In the case material the 15-30 year-old young men (55,3 percent), acute appendicitis as pathology (51,5 percent), laparoscopic surgery as procedure (in 96 of the total) and orotraqueal general anesthesia as anesthetic technique (80,6 percent) prevailed. The occurrence of scarce complications (3,8 percent) guaranteed the favorable clinical course of 228 from 237 operated people.
