RESUMO
O artigo resulta de uma pesquisa quantitativa que caracterizou os motociclistas, vítimas de acidentes de trânsito, internados no Hospital de Pronto-Socorro de Porto Alegre, RS, Brasil, entre junho e agosto de 2002. A amostra contou com 63 motociclistas 34 tiveram lesões de membros inferiores, 22 nos membros superiores, 18 na cabeça, 9 no quadril, 6 no abdômen, 6 no tórax e 5 na coluna; 28 eram motoboys. Existe uma variedade de modos de ver o acidente de trânsito, produzidos numa combinação entre o subjetivo e o sociocultural. Para ampliar a compreensão sobre acidentes de trânsito são necessários estudos qualitativos.
RESUMEN
El artículo resulta de una investigación cuantitativa que caracterizó a los motociclistas, víctimas de accidentes de tránsito, internados en el Hospital de Emergencia de Porto Alegre, RS, Brasil, entre Junio y Agosto de 2002. El muestreo abarcó 63 motociclistas 34% tuvieron lesiones en los miembros inferiores, 22% en los miembros superiores, 18% en la cabeza, 9% en las caderas, 6% en el abdomen, 6% en el tórax y 5% en la columna; 28% eran ‘motoboys’ (transportadores de personas y paquetes). Hay muchas maneras de enfocar un accidente de tránsito y ellas son producto de una combinación entre el subjetivo y el aspecto soco-cultural. Para aumentar la comprensión sobre accidentes de tránsito es necesario que se realicen estudios cualitativos.
ABSTRACT
This article reports part of a quantitative study characterizing motorcyclists, who were victims of traffic accidents and were treated at the Emergency Hospital of Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil, from June to August 2002. The sample included 63 motorcyclists 34% had injuries in the lower limbs, 22% in the upper limbs; 18% in the head, 9% in the hips, 6% in the abdomen, 6% in the thorax, and 5% in the column; 28% out of them were motorcycle couriers. There are several ways of considering traffic accidents, which are produced by a combination between subjective and social-cultural points of view. Qualitative studies are needed for further understanding traffic accidents.
