ABSTRACT
The efficiency of cutting of 3 traditional brands of diamond burs in the domestic market, were compared taking into consideration the size and distribution of the diamond grains. Ten cylindrical diamond burs Fava, KGS and Microdont were used in 10 cuts on glass plates. The results showed that, despite the commitment from industry to standardize the manufacture of diamond points, they still have heterogeneity of its surface. This happens because the manufacturers do not use diamonds of the same size, but a range of 90 μm to 125 μm. At the time of electrodepositing depending on the amperage, the density and grain size, the accumulation of grains in the plated surface may have varying spacing. Despite the diamond burrs show an irregular surface those from Microdont represented an important feature in relation to the others. They were more effective in cutting ability of the glass producing greater depth in less time and showed higher durability of the instruments.
