La preparación del estudiante de Medicina para la eliminación de la tuberculosis / Preparation of the medical student for the elimination of tuberculosis

RESUMEN

Introducción: la preparación del médico general básico es fundamental para el control de la tuberculosis en la comunidad. Objetivo: identificar algunos conocimientos teóricos generales sobre tuberculosis en el futuro médico. Métodos: se aplicó una encuesta anónima a 58 estudiantes de 6to. año, para evaluar conocimientos sobre tuberculosis y su relación con actividades docentes recibidas, experiencia con enfermos y/o pesquisa activa en la comunidad. En el test de 25 ítems-100 puntos, se consideró mal: menos de 60 puntos, aprobado: 60 a 76 y bien: 80 o más. Resultados: se encontró un 31 por ciento de resultados insatisfactorios, con dificultades en conocimientos generales, diagnóstico y tratamiento antituberculoso. Todos los estudiantes refirieron haber recibido actividades docentes relacionadas con tuberculosis, la mayoría teóricas, fundamentalmente en Medicina Interna, Medicina General Integral y Pediatría. El 82,8 por ciento tenía experiencia previa con enfermos y/o pesquisa, sin relación con los resultados de la encuesta. Conclusiones: hay insuficiente preparación en los encuestados para el papel que deberán desempeñar en el control de la tuberculosis

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The preparation of the basic general physician is fundamental to the control of tuberculosis at the community. Objective: To identify some general theoretical knowledge on tuberculosis in the medical future. Methods: An anonymous survey was made to fifty eight 6th year students, in order to evaluate knowledge on tuberculosis and its relationship with received teaching activities, experience in treating patients and/or community-wide active screening. In the 25-item test with score of 100 points, the less-than-60 p scores were considered fail; 60 to 76 were pass; and 80 or over points were good. Results: There was found 31 percent of unsatisfactory results with difficulties in general knowledge, diagnosis and anti-tuberculosis treatment. All the students pointed out to have received theoretical knowledge, mainly in internal medicine, comprehensive general medicine and pediatrics. Of the students, 82.8 percent had previous experience with patients and with carrying out of screening, but unrelated to the survey results. Conclusions: The preparation of the surveyed participants for the role that they must play in controlling tuberculosis is poor
