RESUMO
Este estudo teve como objetivo verificar a influência do período de interrupção de12 semanas na aptidão funcional de mulheres idosas praticantes de natação e hidroginástica. Participaram do estudo 47 idosas, avaliadas com a aplicação da bateria American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, na pré e pós-interrupçãode 12 semanas de exercício. Os resultados das aptidões entre pré e pós-interrupção não apresentaram diferença significativa para flexibilidade,coordenação e índice de aptidão funcional geral das idosas. O período de interrupção influenciou significativamente na redução da agilidade e equilíbrio dinâmico,no aumento da força dos membros superiores e da resistência aeróbia, sendo a última associada à prática de caminhada nesse período.
ABSTRACT
This study aimed to verify the influence of the interruption period of 12 weeks onthe functional fitness of elderly women engaged in swimming and hydrogymnastics. Study participants were aged 47, evaluated for battery American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, in pre and post-interruption of 12 weeks of the exercise. The results of the aptitudes between pre and post-interruption of the program showed no difference statisct for the flexibility, coordination, and the index of general functional fitness in elderly women. The interruption period significantly influenced the reduction of agility and balance, increased strength of the upper and aerobic endurance, the latter being associated with the practice of walking in that period.
