Evidência de validade preliminar da escala de depressão (EDEP): um estudo com alunos de enfermagem / Preliminary validity evidences of depression scale (EDEP): a study with nursing students

RESUMO

A Escala de Depressão (EDEP), desenvolvida no Brasil, constitui-se por um conjunto inicial de itens, com pretensão de se tornar um instrumento de rastreamento de sintomatologia depressiva construída. Sendo assim, torna-se necessária uma série de estudos, com diferentes versões da escala, a fim de se avaliar evidências da sua validade. O objetivo principal deste estudo foi buscar evidências baseando-se na relação, com outras variáveis, de uma versão de 32 itens da EDEP, correlacionando-as com a Escala de Vulnerabilidade ao Estresse no Trabalho (EVENT) e a Maslach Burnout Inventory – Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), uma amostra de 146 estudantes universitários de enfermagem. Os resultados demonstraram correlações de fracas a moderadas, todas significativas e em sentido esperado entre a EDEP com a MBIHSS e a EVENT, além da maior sintomatologia de depressão e estressores organizacionais em estudantes que apresentaram burnout. Os resultados eram esperados, já que os três construtos, apesar de diferentes, apresentam-se relacionados, principalmente entre a sintomatologia e o burnout, que possuem diversos sintomas em sobreposição. A discussão aborda o relacionamento entre os conceitos, do ponto de vista psicométrico e conceitual, bem como as limitações do estudo.

ABSTRACT

The Escala de Depressão (EDEP), developed in Brazil, constitutes an initial set of items, intended to become a screening instrument for depressive built symptomatology . Thus it’s necessary a number of studies with different versions of the scale to evaluate its validity evidences. The main objective of this study was to find these evidences based on its relationship with other variables for a 32 items EDEP, correlating them with the Escala de Vulnerabilidade ao Estresse no Trabalho (EVENT) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory – Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), using a sample of 146 nursing students. The results showed weak to moderate correlations, all of them significant and in the expected direction between EDEP with the MBI-HSS and EVENT, also greater symptoms of depression and organizational stressors in students who had burnout. The results were expected, since the three constructs, although different, have to be related, especially among depression and burnout, which have many overlapping symptoms. The discussion addresses the relation between concepts, in terms of psychometric as well as the limitations of the study.
