Not much has been done in the study of diet and climate in Brazil. It is a fact, however, that basal metabolism in warm climates is much lower than in cold or temperate zones, about 24 per cent lower according to the Aub-Du-Bois standard. Various Brazilian students took up since 1928 the work of Eijkman and found figures of more than 10 per cent lower than abroad
