ABSTRACT
The article describes the results obtained in two different groups vaccinated with 17D vaccine by scarification and in some cases, by the multiple puncture technique. The first group was made up mostly of children; 100 were vaccinated by scarification and neutralization tests showed that the conversion rate was 89 percent; 198 were vaccinated by the multi puncture technique and in these NT tests showed a conversion rate of 97.5 percent. The second group consisted of 387 persons who had been vaccinated between 7 and 13 months beforehand by scarification in the course of a house-to-house vaccination campaign in parts of San Vicente de Chucurí to which access is difficult. The yellow fever NT tests gave the following

results:

positive, 94 percent; inconclusive, 2 percent; negative, 4 percent. The results obtained in both groups, the first for experimental purposes and the second to evaluate a vaccination campaign carried out under routine conditions, are considered to be sufficiently satisfactory to justify recommendation of a method that can be used to vaccinate persons in whose case subcutaneous vaccination presents many difficulties
