RESUMO

Esse artigo discute as idéias sobre educação encontradas no jornal religioso Selecta Catholica (1846 – 1847), pretendendo contribuir para um maior entendimento de modelos educacionais do século XIX. Neste jornal, a educação é entendida como cultivo da inteligência e de virtudes, promovendo uma educação integral que compreende a vigilância sobre os costumes e o cuidado com o adequado desenvolvimento das faculdades da alma. Conclui-se que tal proposta educativa tem seus fundamentos na tradição cristã e em seus saberes, tais como os escritos de São Paulo, as filosofias aristotélico-tomista e agostiniana e os preceitos do Concílio de Trento que culminam na presença de uma concepção de ser humano como pessoa e da educação como percurso evolutivo(AU)

ABSTRACT

The aim of the present paper is to discuss the ideas on education available in the religious journal Selecta Catholica (1846 – 1847), expecting to contribute to a better understanding of the educational patterns of the nineteenth century. On the pages of the mentioned journal, education is understood as the development of virtues, building up integral education wich includes customs surveillance and the reassurance of the adequate development of the faculties of the soul. The fundaments of such an educational approach are based on the Christian tradition and its sources of knowledgement such as Saint Paul’s writings, the Aristotle-Thomas philosophies and the precepts of the Council of Trent which lead to a conception of the human nature as person and of education as an evolutive way(AU)
