Representação social de adolescentes sobre violência e suas práticas preventivas / Social representation of violence in adolescents and their preventive practices

RESUMO

Este artigo analisa as representações sociais de violência entre adolescentes de diferentes segmentos sociais e as práticas preventivas por eles utilizadas. Foram entrevistados 109 adolescentes de ambos os sexos, estudantes do Ensino Médio, dos quais 53 estudavam em escolas particulares de nível socioeconômico médio e alto e 56 em escolas públicas. As entrevistas foram analisadas com o auxílio do software ALCESTE, obtendo-se quatro classes de palavras que reúnem os discursos dos jovens sobre o sentido dado à violência e suas estratégias de prevenção. Não se constatou diferenças expressivas entre os dois grupos de adolescentes quanto à concepção de violência. Entendida como criminalidade que ocorre no espaço público, os adolescentes explicitaram como estratégias de enfrentamento da violência o afastamento de grupos, locais e horários supostamente ameaçadores.(AU)

ABSTRACT

This paper analyzes social representations of violence among adolescents of different social segments and the preventive practices they utilize. An interview was conducted with 109 adolescents of both genders, who were High School 53 students had middle to upper income, and attended private schools, and 56 attended public schools. The interviews were analyzed using the software ALCESTE, resulting in four categories of words related to the meaning given by the adolescents to violence and their prevention strategies. No significant differences were found between the two groups of adolescents regarding their notion of violence. Perceived as crime occuring in public spaces, youngsters suggested strategies for coping with violence, such as keeping a distance from groups, as well as avoiding locations and times allegedly threatening.(AU)
