RESUMO

Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar o trabalho dos psicólogos em instituiçõespenais, baseando-se no papel que lhes é atribuído pela Lei de Execução Penal (Lei nº.7.210, de 11 de julho de 1984, modificada pela Lei 10.792, de 1º. de dezembro de 2003) eno fato de que esta função vem se restringindo à classificação dos condenados e não aoseu acompanhamento e da respectiva pena. Atividades que poderiam ser oferecidas nosentido de contribuir para que a pessoa presa ressignifique sua vida e seus valores, e seprepare para enfrentar as situações cotidianas não são encontradas na maioria dasunidades penais. Entrevistas realizadas com egressos desse sistema, a fim de compreenderas influências da pena privativa de liberdade em suas vidas evidenciaram inúmerasdificuldades que encontraram, e continuam encontrando, para manterem-se de modosocialmente aceito e para desvincularem-se das vivências do período de detenção.Concluímos que é imprescindível e urgente modificar o trabalho que vem sendo feito pelospsicólogos no sistema prisional e enfatizar, ainda, a necessidade de se optar por penas emedidas alternativas que efetivamente permitam o amadurecimento, a reflexão e atransformação das pessoas que entraram em conflito com a lei(AU)

ABSTRACT

The objective of this article is to analyze the work of psychologists in correctionalfacilities, based on the role assigned to them by the Penal Execution Law (Law No. 7210of 11 July 1984, amended by Law 10,792 of 1 December 2003) and the fact that thisfunction is being restricted to the classification of convicts and not to the accompanimentof their respective sentences. Activities that could be offered to help the person arrestedreframe his life and values, to mature and prepare to deal with everyday situations are notfound in most criminal units. Interviews with egresses of this system in order to understandthe influence of deprivation of liberty in their lives, showed the many difficulties that theyencountered, and continue to find, to maintain themselves in a socially accepted way andto withdraw from the experiences of the detention period. In conclusion, with these data, itis imperative and urgent to modify the work being done by psychologists in the prisonsystem and emphasize also the necessity of taking penalties and alternative measures that effectively allow maturation, reflection and transformation of people who came intoconflict with the law, its internal and external conditions and the community to which theybelong(AU)
