Da consciência para o cérebro: a especulação sobre os processos nervosos em Freud e na psicologia da Gestalt / From consciousness to brain: speculation on nervous processes in Freud and the Gestalt Psychology

RESUMO

Um posicionamento semelhante pode ser encontrado na psicologia da Gestalt e na teoria metapsicológica de Freud a respeito da necessidade das teorias psicológicas incluírem hipóteses especulativas sobre os processos cerebrais que subjazem aos fenômenos psíquicos. Os argumentos dessas duas teorias permitem que se extraiam certas reflexões relevantes para a situação e o contexto atual da psicologia, no qual os limites e as inter-relações entre psicologia e biologia ainda são alvo de polêmica. Nesse artigo, os modelos teóricos propostos por Freud e pela psicologia da Gestalt para explicar a relação entre o mental e o neural são retomados e discutem-se alguns de seus argumentos sobre a necessidade desses modelos incluírem conjecturas sobre a base orgânica dos processos psíquicos, feitas a partir da observação dos fenômenos de consciência. Em suma, pretende-se abordar alguns pontos de vista teóricos dessas duas teorias que são, em geral, pouco enfatizados na história da psicologia e que podem ser ainda relevantes para o contexto atual da disciplina.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Both in Freud’s metapsychology and in Gestalt Psychology, similar stances can be found concerning the need that psychological theories include speculative hypotheses about brain processes underlying psychic phenomena. The arguments formulated by these theories allow some relevant reflection on psychology’s contemporary situation and context, in which the limits and the relationship between psychology and biology are still polemical matters. In this paper, the theoretical models proposed by Freud and by Gestalt psychology to explain the mind-brain relationship are addressed and some of their arguments on the need to make assumptions about the organic bases of psychical processes are discussed – assumptions that would be formulated through the observation of conscious phenomena. In brief, the article seeks to approach some theoretical viewpoints of these two currents of thought which are often overlooked in the history of psychology and which may still be relevant to the current context of this discipline.(AU)
