ABSTRACT
In the 21st century, the predominance of the sexes can still be observed in certain professions and activities in the occupational world. This study aimed to verify whether there are differences in professional interests by comparing the choices of girls and boys in Brazilian high school. The study included 241 adolescents between 16 and 20 years of age, from the third year of public schools, 145 of whom were from regular high school and 96 from technical school. For data collection, was used the instrumental Professional Interest Assessment (AIP) of the Levenfus and Bandeira. In the comparison between the sexes, using the Student's t test, it was found that the female interests are concentrated in the fields of activities Manual / Artistic, Behavioral / Educational and Biological / Health, corroborating the literature, while the male ones concentrate on the Physical / Mathematical, Calculations / Finance, Organizational / Administrative and Symbolic / Linguistic. The results show that differences in professional interests persist due to gender stereotypes, despite an increase in male interests. It discusses the importance of investing in public policies to reduce gender stereotypes in professions throughout basic education.(AU)
