Reabilitação Neuropsicológica na Memória de Idosos Saudáveis: revisão sistemática do Brasil e América Latina / Neuropsychological Rehabilitation on Memory in Healthy Elderly: Systematic Review of Brazil and Latin America

RESUMO

O objetivo do presente estudo foi realizar uma revisão dos artigos publicados em revistas brasileiras e latino-americanas sobre o efeito da reabilitação neuropsicológica (RN) na memória de idosos saudáveis. Empregou-se o método de revisão sistemática incluindo artigos publicados entre os anos de 2008 e 2018 nas bases Scielo.org, Lilacs e Pepsic. A busca foi realizada em português, inglês e espanhol, sendo utilizados os termos “reabilitação neuropsicológica”, “reabilitação cognitiva”, “treino cognitivo” em associação com o termo “memória”. Os critérios de elegibilidade envolveram a presença de participantes idosos, sem patologia psicológica (idade média > 60 anos), bem como, relato da intervenção com efeito sobre a memória e delineamento de grupos. Treze dos 85 estudos inicialmente identificados cumpriram os critérios de elegibilidade. Eles foram analisados quanto a descrição das estratégias utilizadas, os subcomponentes de memória estimulados e as evidências de eficácia obtidas. A memória episódica e a memória operacional foram as mais estudadas. Entre as formas de intervenção identificou-se o predomínio da modalidade grupal, com um padrão de estimulação multimodal (mais de uma função). As principais estratégias empregadas envolvem treinos mnemônicos e de categorização semântica. Além disso, foram identificados treinos de atenção e de funções executivas com efeitos secundários sobre a memória. A eficácia dos treinos variou entre os diferentes tipos de memória. Mas, efeitos positivos foram observados na memória semântica, na memória operacional e, principalmente, na memória episódica. Sugere-se a busca de mais evidências sobre a eficácia da RN em memória de idosos, particularmente quanto a generalização de seus efeitos.(AU)

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to review the papers published in Brazilian and Latin American journals on the effect of neuropsychological rehabilitation (NR) on the memory of healthy elderly people. A systematic review was conducted including papers published between the years 2008 and 2018 in the local databases (Scielo.org, Lilacs and Pepsic). The search was conducted in Portuguese, English and Spanish, using the terms "neuropsychological rehabilitation", "cognitive rehabilitation", "cognitive training" associated with the term "memory". The eligibility criteria were the presence of elderly participants (mean age> 60 years) without psychological pathology, and report of the intervention with effect on the memory performed with a group design. Thirteen of the 85 studies initially identified met the eligibility criteria. They were analyzed for the description of the strategies used, the memory subcomponents stimulated and the evidence of efficacy obtained. Episodic memory and working memory were the most studied components. Most studies investigated multi-modal interventions (more than one function) applied in groups. Training of menemonic techniques and semantic categorization. In addition, attention and executive function training has been identified with secondary effects on memory. The effectiveness of training varied between different types of memory. However, positive effects were observed in semantic memory, in working memory and, mainly, in episodic memory. It is suggested to research for more evidence on the effectiveness of NBR in the memory of the elderly, particularly regarding the generalization of its effects.(AU)
