A concepção de morte na história e a COVID-19: uma retrospectiva teórica / The conception of death in history and COVID-19: a theoretical retrospective

RESUMO

A relação do homem com a morte foi se modificando ao longo do tempo. No decorrer da história, diversas foram as concepções desse fenômeno no imaginário social. Por meio de uma retrospectiva teórica, o objetivo deste estudo é abordar a concepção de morte ao longo da civilização ocidental e suas implicações. No contexto de pandemia pela infecção da COVID-19, a compreensão da morte sofre significativas modificações devido a privação/restrições de rituais, consequências na elaboração do luto, aos locais das mortes e dos enterros, entre outros. A morte nesse atual cenário é representada através do alto índice estatístico de mortalidade e isso acarreta em implicações, como a relativização e a desumanização das vítimas. Com isso, é de suma importância a realização de projetos e ações que visem sensibilizar e humanizar essas mortes, além de legitimar o luto de maneira reflexiva e adequada quando possível.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Man's relationship with death has changed over time. The conceptions of this phenomenon have been diverse in the social imagination. Through a theoretical retrospective, the aim of this study is to address the concept of death throughout Western civilization and its implications. In the context of a pandemic due to the COVID-19 infection, the understanding of death undergoes significant changes due to deprivation/restrictions of rituals, consequences in the elaboration of mourning, the places of deaths and burials, among others. Death in this current scenario is represented by the high statistical mortality rate and this has implications, such as the relativization and dehumanization of the victims. Therefore, it is extremely important to carry out projects and actions that aim to raise awareness and humanize these deaths, in addition to legitimizing mourning in a reflexive and appropriate way when possible.(AU)
