This book presents a number of case studies and conclusions from a workshop, which analyzed systems used to evaluate hospital performance in countries in the WHO European Region. The workshop took place in Milan and was organized in collaboration with the Smith Kline Foundation. The book is part of WHO's project on Innovations in Hospital Management, which aims at identifying innovations to produce better health gain in the broader sense of the term, including better and more accessible care, patient satisfaction through better management, improved quality and cost control
