ABSTRACT
Apical sodium-dependent bile acid transporter (ASBT) is a key transporter responsible for intestinal reabsorption of bile acid and plays an important role in maintaining bile acid and cholesterol homeostasis, and its expression is regulated by various factors including transcription factorsnuclear receptors, and intestinal microflora. The abnormal expression and function of ASBT can lead to disorders in the metabolism of bile acid and cholesterol, causing a variety of hepatobiliary diseases. At present, ASBT has attracted wide attention as a therapeutic target. This article elaborates on the biological characteristics and expression regulation mechanism of ASBT and reviews the role of ASBT in hepatobiliary diseases, in order to provide a new direction for the treatment of related diseases.
