Influencia de la Misión Milagro en la salud visual latinoamericana / Effect of Miracle Mission on the Latin American visual health

RESUMEN

La Misión Milagro, concebida como una campaña de solidaridad en el ámbito oftalmológico con todos los pueblos latinoamericanos y caribeños, surgió por iniciativa de Cuba apoyada por la República Bolivariana de Venezuela. Se analizan los factores que propiciaron su surgimiento y se destaca su influencia en la salud visual latinoamericana desde el punto de vista asistencial, docente e investigativo. Muchos han sido los beneficios que ha traído este proyecto de alcance social prevenir y tratar las principales causas de ceguera, incrementar la formación de recursos humanos con la más alta tecnología para lograr calidad y eficiencia y promover el proceso investigativo fundamentalmente dirigido hacia la atención primaria de salud

ABSTRACT

Miracle Mission designed as a solidarity campaign in the ophthalmologic field for all the Latin American and Caribbean peoples, emerged at the initiative of Cuba with the support of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The factors that encouraged this mission were analyzed, and its effects on the Latin American visual health from the assistance, teaching and research viewpoints were also stressed. This social program has brought about many benefits to prevent and to treat the main causes of blindness; to increase the formation of human resources using high technology for quality and efficiency; and to promote the research process aimed at the primary health care fundamentally
