Objective:
to identify the stressors experienced by women during preoperative of heart valve surgery, checkand correlate the level of stress and the focus of coping.Method:
descriptive study with a quantitativeapproach conducted with 65 women. A visual analog scale and the Modes of Coping with Problems Scale wereused in the study and their correlation was analyzed through Spearman test and two open questions whoseanswers were categorized and quantified.Results:
The stress level was 5.3. Stressors were related toperioperative, family and paid work. Religious practices by EMEP were the first focus. There was a positivecorrelation between emotional focus and stress level (p = 0.019) and between some aspects of coping amongthemselves.Conclusion:
Women have a medium level of stress and they recognize stressors related to family,work and the surgery itself finding support in faith and in problem solving. Nursing actions can be developedin the immediate preoperative period...
