RESUMO
This work determined the prevalence and intensity of infection by intestinal nematodes in Leporinus friderici (Bloch, 1794) and Leporinus obtusidens (Valenciennes, 1836), in the swamp of Nova Ponte, municipality of Perdizes, State of Minas Gerais. We collected 50 specimens of each host, using stationary nets and sticks, from April 2002 to January 2003. Fishes were eviscerated and nematodes were searched through direct exam of the digestive tube and attached organs. The overall prevalence rates were 90% in L. friderici and 80% in L. obtusidens. Only two species were founded Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) inopinatus Travassos, Artigas & Pereira, 1928 and Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) iheringi Travassos, Artigas & Pereira, 1928. P. (S.) inopinatus presented dominance in L. friderici (90%) but not in L. obtusidens (56%). P. (S.) iheringi was more prevalent in L. obtusidens (48%) than in L. friderici (2%). Length and intensity of infection were positively correlated in L. obtusidens.
