RESUMEN

Los coronavirus fueron conocidos durante muchos años por causar enfermedades respiratorias y digestivas frecuentes; pero de leve intensidad en las personas inmunocompetentes. A inicios de este siglo, en el 2002 y 2012, nuevas cepas de esta familia originaron el síndrome respiratorio agudo severo (SARS-CoV) y el síndrome respiratorio del Oriente Medio (MERS-CoV) respectivamente, ambas se consideran enfermedades emergentes a partir de un reservorio animal, y responsables de infecciones respiratorias graves de corte epidémico con gran repercusión internacional debido a su elevada morbilidad y mortalidad(AU)

ABSTRACT

Coronaviruses were known for many years for causing frequent respiratory and digestive diseases; but of slight intensity in immunocompetent people. At the beginning of this century, in 2002 and 2012, new strains of this family originated the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV) and the respiratory syndrome of the Middle East (MERS-CoV) respectively, both are considered emerging diseases from an animal reservoir, and responsible for severe respiratory infections of epidemic nature with great international repercussion due to its high morbidity and mortality(AU)
