RESUMEN

El Servicio de Pediatría del Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre es un servicio clasificado como de grado III, de máxima complejidad. Contiene prácticamente todas las subespecialidades pediátricas, algunas de ellas unidades nacionales de referencia, que garantizan la atención de los niños con cualquier enfermedad. La atención pediátrica se completa mediante la colaboración permanente de los Servicios de Cirugía Infantil, Neonatología, Sección de Neurocirugía Infantil, Cirugía Máxilo—facial, Neurología Infantil, Radiología Infantil y, en general, todos los servicios del Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre. La asistencia humanitaria y de calidad, centrada en el paciente y su familia, es un objetivo permanente del Servicio de Pediatría del Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre. Se fomenta la participación de los padres en las decisiones que afectan a su hijo y su presencia permanente con el niño en todas las unidades, incluida la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos pediátricos. Durante los últimos años, se han humanizado los espacios físicos mediante una decoración apropiada y alegre y creación de zonas para juegos y ocio. Existen varias líneas de actuación para disminuir el dolor y el sufrimiento de los niños, y otras dedicadas a garantizar su seguridad, como la prevención de infecciones nosocomiales, programas de detección precoz del empeoramiento clínico y otras. La docencia a los estudiantes de Medicina de la Universidad Complutense y a los residentes de Pediatría, junto con el compromiso con la investigación, contribuyen a mantener la excelencia en el conocimiento y la mejor asistencia a nuestros niños (AU)

ABSTRACT

The Pediatrics Department of the University Hospital 12 de Octubre is a department classified as grade III, having maximum complexity. It has practically all the pediatric sub-specialties, some of them being national units of reference, which guarantee attention to children with any disease. The pediatric care is completed through permanent collaboration of the Departments of Child Surgery, Neonatology, Section of Child Neurosurgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Child Neurology, Child Radiology, and in general, all the departments of the University Hospital 12 de Octubre. The humanitarian and quality care, focused on the patient and his/her family, is a permanent objective of the Pediatrics Department of the University Hospital 12 de Octubre. Participation of the parents in the decisions affecting their child and their permanent presence with the child in all the units, including the pediatric Intensive Care Unit, is encouraged. During recent years, the physical spaces have been humanized through appropriate and joyful decoration and creation of areas for play and leisure. There are several lines of actions to decrease the pain and suffering of the children and others dedicated to guaranteeing their safety, as prevention of nosocomial infections, early detection programs of clinical deterioration and others. Teaching the Medical students of the Complutense University and Pediatric residents, together with the commitment to investigation, contribute to maintaining the excellence in knowledge and the best care to our children (AU)
