RESUMEN
La finalidad del presente estudio fue establecer el efecto de dos programas de ejercicio en el medio acuático de un año de duración – uno de impacto y resistencias adicionales en piscina poco profunda y otro de natación en piscina profunda- sobre la capacidad de salto y la composición corporal de mujeres postmenopáusicas con moderado riesgo de fractura de cadera. 59 mujeres de Toledo capital (España) fueron asignadas aleatoriamente a tres grupos grupo de natación (GN; n = 21), grupo de impacto y resistencias (GIR; n =21) y grupo control (GC; n = 17). Todas recibieron instrucciones de no alterar sus hábitos alimentarios y de mantenerla práctica de actividad física habitual durante el estudio. Para evaluar la composición corporal se analizó el índice de masa corporal (IMC) y el índice cintura-cadera (ICC). El consumo energético semanal (CES) se controló mediante el cuestionario de frecuencia alimentaria del programa de análisis nutricional Medi System 2000 (Sanocare Human Systems L.S., Madrid, España). La altura de salto se halló mediante un test de salto con contra movimiento (CMJ). Ambos grupos de ejercicio mostraron un descenso significativo (p<0.05) del IMC (GN 2.77%, GIR 2.71%). En GN se observó una disminución significativa del ICC (4.71%).No se encontraron cambios significativos en el CES de los grupos de ejercicio. No se encontraron mejoras significativas en la capacidad de salto de ninguno los grupos de estudio pero sí se obtuvieron diferencias significativas entre ambos grupos de ejercicio y el grupo control. Se puede concluir que el ejercicio en el medio acuático, tanto de impacto y resistencias adicionales como de natación, permite obtener mayor capacidad de salto que la mera práctica de actividad física en mujeres postmenopáusicas, siendo eficaz a la hora de conseguir mejoras en la composición corporal (AU)
ABSTRACT
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of two water-based exercise programs on jump height and body composition in postmenopausal women with moderate hip risk fracture. Exercise programs consisted of calisthenics and resistance exercise in a shallow pool and swimming exercise in a deep pool developed during one year. 59 women from Toledo (Spain) were randomly divided into three groups swimming group (GN; n = 21), calisthenics and resistance group (GIR; n = 21), and control group (GC; n = 17). Subjects were instructed not to alter their diets and extra physical activity habits during the study to preserve the external validity. Anthropometric profile included body mass index (IMC) and waist to hip ratio (ICC) measurements. Energy consumption per week (CES) was measured using a self-administrated food frequency questionnaire included in the nutritional analysis program Medi System 2000, developed for the Sanocare Human Systems L.S., Madrid (Spain). Jump height was assessed by a countermovement jump test (CMJ). Both exercise programs showed a significant (p<0.05) decrease in IMC (GN 2.77%, GIR 2.71%). Additionally, GN showed a significant decrease in ICC (4.71%). No significant changes were obtained on CES in exercise groups. There were no significant improvements in CMJ in any group but at the end of the study, GN and GIR measurements were significantly higher from GC relative to CMJ. In conclusion, one year of water-based exercise, either calisthenics and resistance exercise in a shallow pool or swimming exercise in a deep pool, was effective regarding improvements on jumping performance in postmenopausal women with moderate hip risk fracture. Women who were enrolled in those systematic water-training programs were able to jump higher than physically active women. Moreover, both exercise programs were effective regarding improvements in body composition (AU)
