RESUMO

O objeto desta pesquisa foi repensar a identidade masculina frente à paternidade, na tentativa de se buscar umanova definição para o ser homem, levando-se em consideração experiências adstritas à condição feminina. Apopulação deste estudo qualitativo foi de 25 sujeitos, sendo dez pais e 15 profissionais de enfermagem. Osdados foram obtidos por meio de entrevista aberta, baseada em roteiro preliminar, realizada pelo pesquisador, eanalisados à luz da Teoria da Identidade Social. Procurou-se trabalhar o conhecimento imediato dos pais, oconhecimento mediado de profissionais, baseado nas representações destes sobre o comportamento dos pais, eo conhecimento abstrato do pesquisador, embasado na literatura especializada e experiência profissional. Osresultados da análise do comportamento do homem mostraram um indivíduo que na busca da compreensão davivência da paternidade, vem repensando seu papel, suas atitudes e principalmente suas emoções,conquistando novos espaços na construção de sua identidade. Por outro lado, na fala dos profissionais foramresgatados esteriótipos sociais sobre o comportamento desse homem, frente à paternidade, que o desqualificam.A reavaliação de nossas concepções é o caminho para mudanças em nossa prática no campo da saúde quecontribuirão no processo de construção da identidade do novo homem.

ABSTRACT

The object of this study was to rethink the masculine identity forward to fatherhood, in an attempt to seek a newdefinition to be a man, taking into account experiences attached to the female condition. The population of thisqualitative study was 25 subjects, 10 parents and 15 nurses. Data were collected through open interviews, basedon preliminary script, and analyzed by the researcher to the Theory of Social Identity. We tried to work theimmediate knowledge of parents, mediated knowledge of professionals, based on these representations aboutthe behavior of parents and abstract knowledge of the researcher, based on specialized literature and profissionalexperience. The results of the analysis of human behavior have shown that an individual in the pursuit ofunderstanding the experience of fatherhood, is rethinking its role, especially their attitudes and emotions,conquering space in the construction of their identity. On the other hand, the professionals speeches rescuedsocial stereotypes about the behavior of those men forward to fatherhood that disqualify them. The reassessmentof our conceptions is the way to changes in our practice in the health field that will contribute in the process ofidentity construction on the new man.
