ABSTRACT

Amongst its multiple virtues, Spontaneous Theatre has ihe asset ofrevitalizing humour, that sort of collectively liberating potential that is found in the very center of human experience. From a momentary questioning of certain dominant ideas to the possibility of evading or subverting instituted systems of social control, this perspective overcomes the exaggerated importance c rationalism in our culture.The performances of this kind of improvisational theatre find their greatest potential in the unthinkable, the unspeakable, the unrepresented and unrepresentable which makes the world infinitely more chaotic than any lineal narration can tell. The author reflects on what are the necessary conditions for Spontaneous Theatre to take-arn(antage of comedy in favour of pleasure in order to stimulate the audience to perceive itself as a social actor. Each irrational slicing of common opinion on something implies a certain independence from the character and from the script, from any role or prefixed attribution, ali of which permits a new collective synthesis.(AU)
