ABSTRACT
[Abstract] Acute pancreatitis (AP) is one of the most common acute abdominal diseases, with many characteristics such as acute onset, rapid progression, many complications, and high mortality. AP seriously threatens human's life and health. The overall mortality rate of AP is 5%, among them severe acute pancreatitis is the most serious and its mortality rate is as high as 17%-20%. Up to now, the pathogenesis of AP has not been fully elucidated, therefore, the establishment of an appropriate animal model of AP is of great significance for studying etiology and pathogenesis of AP and exploring effective treatment measures for AP. The preparation methods of AP animal models divided into two categories invasive and non-invasive or in vivo and in vitro. The classification of pancreatitis has not been discussed. This article will review the general situation of animal models of acute biliary pancreatitis, hypertriglyceridemia induced acute pancreatitis and alcoholic acute pancreatitis.
