Analysis on the influencing factors of medical journal editors′ job burnout

ABSTRACT

Objective:

To explore the possible factors whice influence the job burnout of medical journal editors, through the analysis of demographic variables.

Methods:

From July to August in 2020, the domestic medical journal editors were selected as the research object, and the job burnout scale was used as the questionnaire which distributed in the form of electronic questionnaire, to observe the potential difference of medical journal editors′ job burnout in gender, work years, education level, age, salary. A total of 136 valid questionnaires were collected, including 15 males (11.0%) and 121 females (89.0%). The software of SPSS25.0 was used for statistical analysis.

Results:

The total score of medical journal editors′job burnout was (2.73±1.00), which was in the state of mild burnout. In terms of gender and education level, there was no significant difference in job burnout among medical journal editors ( P>0.05). The job burnout of medical journal editors whose entry time was 1-5 years, age was 20-30 years, and monthly income was less than 5000 yuan was significantly higher than that of other medical journal editors ( P>0.05). Multivariate analysis of variance showed that age ( F=9.868, P<0.001), working years ( F=11.454, P<0.001) and monthly income ( F=2.642, P=0.037) were the influencing factors of job burnout of medical journal editors.

Conclusion:

It will be effective to reduce the job burnout of medical journal editors, by helping young medical editors to establish correct professional values, enhanceing working ability, and improving the salary and treatment of medical journal editors.
