ABSTRACT
In a prospective study of 20 healthy young adults; (40 eyes); homatropine (2); an anticholinergic mydriatic; with rapid onset of action produced mydriasis which peaked in 60.0 + 3.2 mins. Visual functions were impaired; ranging from inability to read fine prints or perform near tasks; to loss of light reflex; paralysis of accommodation; etc throughout the duration of the study: It is suggested that shorter acting mydriatics be used for routine ophthalmoscopy. Furthermore; reversal of mydriasis after routine ocular examination is indicated
