TB children with malnutrition

ABSTRACT

113 children admitted seriously ill were treated for tuberculosis using short course and standard therapy as designed by the National TB and Leprosy Control Programme. Diagnosis was based on the history; a high level suspicion and clinical fingings. In the absence of x-ray and poor laboratory findings; the diagnosis was confirmed by response to therapy and weight gain. There was a good deal of overlap between the various categories of diagnosis outlined and it is a question of weighing up a number of different factors in making the diagnosis. Some of the patients may have been wrongly diagnosed; but what is not in doubt was the happy mothers and bouncing children handed over to the TB control assistants for follow up at the end of their 2 months treatment
