ABSTRACT

Twenty-two cases were examined and studied, of which 16 cases of atypical endocervical glandular hyperplasia. Mucin study revealed a gradual depletion from benign to malignant. PAS staining for neutral mucin showed a significant difference between low and high grade atypical hyperplasia and between high grade cases and well- differentiated adenocarcinoma. While, alcian blue stain for acid mucin showed a significant differentiation between low and high grade cases, not between high grade atypical hyperplasia and well- differentiated adenocarcinoma. AgNORs could be used as a differential parameter between atypical and malignant lesions

ABSTRACT

Immunohistochemical study by using muscle actin as a marker for myoepithelium [M/E] was done on 30 cases of breast lesions, 15 cases of fibrocystic disease revealed positive M/E cells that show two patterns: Basal continuous and interrupted patterns. The first was more predominant in small cysts, adenosis, mild and moderate epitheliosis. The second was more predominant in large cysts, apocrine metaplasia and florid epitheliosis. M/E was absent in large cysts with atrophic epithelium. 6 cases of intraductal papilloma showed marked positive M/E cells. 9 cases of in situ ductal carcinoma showed positive M/E in 55.55% of cases: 3 cases of papillary type and one case of comedo type were negative for M/E. So, marked presentation of M/E could be considered as a supportive sign of benignancy, especially in suspicious cases in fibrocystic disease and intraductal papilloma, but basal interruption or focal presentation in suspicious cases may be a warning sign to in situ malignancy

ABSTRACT

Microscopic vascularity was studied in 15 cases of benign prostate tissue and 15 cases of prostatic carcinomas. H and E stain and immunohistochemistry by marking the vascular endothelial cells with antibodies to factor VII related antigen were used to detect microvessel profiles in tissue sections. In benign prostate tissue the capillaries are more dense near hyperplastic gl and s than cystic one and in perigl and ular stroma than the interlobular one. The data demonstrated the increased density of capillaries with more irregularity in prostatic carcinomas when compared with benign prostate tissues, also the capillaries have tiny lumens and irregular angular shape. Capillary densities were variable from tumor to tumor

ABSTRACT

Prostatic stroma was studied in twenty cases of benign prostate tissue and fifteen cases of malignant prostate tissue. H and E strain, Masson's trichrome strain and immuno-histochemistry by making smooth muscle strome with smooth muscle actin and anti-desmin antibodies were used for each case. In benign prostate tissue stroma form the main component. Smooth muscle fibers that form the main element of the stroma show two patterns, areas of dense condensation and alternation with fibrous tissue b and s. The fibrous tissue increased in the stroma especially around secretory epithelium. In malignant prostate tissue no increase in smooth muscle fibers while, fibrous tissue was more around invasive malignant cells. Anti-desmin was weak positive in 8.6% of cases while smooth muscle action show marked positivity in all the cases
