ABSTRACT

The aim of the present work is to investigate the histamine releasing activity of the relatively new opioid analgesic butorphanol comparing it with other opioid analgesics choosing morphine as a parent of the most opioids. The results of our study suggest that butorphanol compared to morphine has no histamine releasing activity however, it could produce a spasmolytic effect. Butorphanol is much more superior opioid having the advantages and lacking disadvantages of morphine and other opioids and can be safer in asthmatic subjects when opioid alkaloids are indicated

ABSTRACT

Fluconazole, a new oral bis-triazole antifungal drug was used to treat 23 patients [17 males and 6 females] suffering from oropharyngeal c and idiasis. Highly statistical significant clinical improvement was achieved in the followed up lesions; pain, burning and the inflammation on a 50 mg single daily oral dose for 14 days yielding a cure rate of 82.6%. Although mycological assessment showed similar rate of 82.6% at day 7 of therapy, recolonization was observed in 4 patients at end of day 14 of therapy giving a mycological cure of 65.2%. Fluconazole therapy did not induce changes in blood picture as well as renal and liver function tests. The drug was well tolerated in 21 cases mild and transient nausea and diarrhea were reported in only 2 patients

ABSTRACT

Doxazosin, a new alpha[1] adrenergic inhibitor was used to treat fifty adult hypertensive patients of both sexes. The drug effectively reduced both systolic and diastolic blood pressures. Doxazosin also had a favorable net effects on the lipid pattern; as it significantly reduced total lipids, total cholesterol, triglycerides and VLDL-Cholesterol. In spite of minor decrease in the means or HDL-Cholesterol yet the HDL-Cholesterol/ total Cholesterol ratio was increased and at the same time the total Cholesterol/ HDL-Cholesterol and LDL-Cholesterol/ HDL-Cholesterol ratios were decreased. These changes were statistically significant. Doxazosin was well tolerated and side effects were mostly mild, tolerable and short lived

ABSTRACT

Piroxicam I.M. was used to treat forty five patients with acute rheumatic conditions. The duration of therapy was one week with a 40 mg single daily dose in the first two days and 20 mg single daily dose for the remaining 5 days. Dramatic improvement of pain, tenderness and limitation of movement occurred from the first visit after treatment and the improvement continued till the last visit. The safety profile of intramuscular piroxicam was quite evident through the absence of significant differences in the means of laboratory tests done before and after therapy. This in addition to the absence of side effects in 40 cases while the remaining 5 cases complained from mild transit injection site pain

ABSTRACT

Fluconazole in single oral 150 mg capsule was used to treat fifty females with vaginal candidiasis. Pruritus, discharge and burning were very prominent in all cases before therapy. Follow-up of these symptoms after treatment showed disappearance of the above symptoms in 5, 41 and 46 cases respectively in visit 2 [7-14 days after treatment] while improvement of the same symptoms occurred in the rest of the cases. High mycological response was achieved, as the organism was eradicated in 43 cases in visit 2 [7-14 days after therapy]. The drug showed excellent tolerability in 48 cases without any side effects while mild transent gastric upset was reported in 2 cases
