ABSTRACT

Objective To make a textual research on Zisu about the name, origin, morphology and efficacy, a dual-purpose medicinal and edible plant, in order to make the original clear and provide reference basis for clinical application. Methods Textual research was carried out from the aspects of synonym, distribution, morphology, efficacy, toxicity and side effects of the plants. Results Zisu,Baisu and Su in the herbal medicine of past dynasties belong to the Ren category, which are species or varieties of Perilla frutescens(L.)Britt. Zisu has purple leaves, and its stems, leaves and seeds are used as medicine to mainly lower Qi. While Baisu has green leaves, which could cure wind cold. Conclusion There are significant differences in botanical morphology and pharmacological efficacy between Zisu and Baisu, which should be distinguished and used separately. Zisu is a dual-purpose traditional Chinese medicine with a long application history. Baisu is not suitable for edible consumption.

ABSTRACT

The novel coronavirus pneumonia is an acute respiratory infectious disease mainly manifested by fever, fatigue and dry cough, caused by new coronavirus 2019-nCoV infection(COVID-19). Traditional Chinese Medicine played an important role in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 during this breakout. This article reviews the clinical treatments of SARS-CoV-2 with TCM, the pathogenesis of COVID-19, dialectical treatment with TCM, and the antiviral, anti-inflammatory, immune regulatory effects of TCM. Some TCM with dual immuno-modulatory effects draw special attention, which may shed light on the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Illicium henryi Diels is a medicinal and aromatic plant native to China with Chinese name Mancao or Hondu-hui.The name of Mancao was first recorded in the"Classic of Mountains and Rivers"and the earliest documented medicinal function of this plant was found in"Shen Nong′s herbal classic".Its botanical origin includes Illicium lanceolatum A.C. Smith and Illicium henryi Diels while Miscanthus sinensis Anderss(Gramineae)and Tripterygium wilfordii Hook.f. (Celastraceae)were recorded as Mancao by mistake.Mancao is mainly distributed in Henan,Hebei,Sichuan,Zhejiang and Fu-jian Province. All those plants are toxic. In this paper, the name, habitats, origins, the characteristics and effects of Illicium lanceolatum A.C.Smith and Illicium henryi Diels were investigated to correct the origin of the textural records and provide a reference for future research, development and utilization of the medical resources.

ABSTRACT

Objective To utilize and evaluate the resources of Abrus cantoniensis Hance (AC) and Abrus mollis Hance (AM ) by analyzing and comparing their essential oils and fatty acids .Method The essential oils of AC and AM were extracted with the hydro distillation method .Fatty acids were obtained by petroleum ether extraction of the 95% ethanol concentrate . Fatty acid extract was further reacted with BSTFA for GC-MS analysis .Components were identified by searching NIST MS library .Result Forty-two and thirty-three chemical constituents were identified from the essential oil of AC and AM respec-tively ,which accounted for 56 .76% and 63 .45% of their volatile components .( ± )-α-terpinyl acetate are the common essential oils found in both AC and AM .Thirteen and fourteen chemical constituents were identified from the fatty acid extract of AC and AM respectively .AC and AM have different chemical components and compositions .Conclusion Our results provide a sci-entific basis for the bioactivities ,quality control and resource utilization of AC and AM .

ABSTRACT

Changium smyrnioides (C . smyrnioides) Wolff is one species of monotypic genus in the A piaceae family w hich is a Chinese endemic species medicinal plant .It has the effect of nourishing the body ,improving health ,moiste‐ning the lung ,eliminating sputum and suppressing cough ,regulating stomach and relieving vomiting ,neutralizing toxins and subsiding swelling .C .smyrnioides as one kind of medicinal food and tonic agents ,is one of the important export medicinal ma‐terials .The tonic effect may be related with immuno‐regulatory ,anti‐fatigue and anti‐stress activities ,and polysaccharides are the main active constituents .The progress of the active constituents and pharmacological actions of C .smyrnioides are re‐viewed to provide basis for future rational development and utilization .

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of Liriope platyphylla total saponin (LPTS) on learning, memory, neuromediators and metabolites in aging mice induced by D-galactose. METHODS: Ninety Kunming mice were randomly divided into nine groups: normal saline (NS)-treated group, untreated group, high- (100 mg/kg), medium- (50 mg/kg) and low-dose (10 mg/kg) LPTS-treated groups, Shuxuening-treated group, jiaogulanosidi-treated group, flunarizine-treated group and vitamin E-treated group. The Kunming mice in the NS-treated group were administered with NS by intraperitoneal injection, while the aging mice in the other eight groups were administered with D-galactose by intraperitoneal injection. At the same time, the aging mice in different groups were fed with corresponding drugs for 42 days, and the aging items of the mice in different groups were measured, respectively. RESULTS: LPTS could improve the memory of aging mice induced by D-galactose, promote its body weight, and increase the thymus and spleen indexes of the aging mice. LPTS could decrease the levels of MDA and lipofuscin, inhibit MAO activity and increase SOD activity and GSH-Px level. CONCLUSION: LPTS may improve the ability of learning and memory and delay aging.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effects of seed sources and storage conditions on the seed germination rate of Valeriana officinalis. Methods The seeds of V. officinalis under different storage conditions were used as materials for germination test, and the germination rate was calculated and compared according to the results. Results The seed germination rate of valerians is varied with different sources. The seed germination rate of V. officinalis is higher than that of V. officinalis var. latifolia, and the seed germination rate of cultivated valeriana is much higher than that of the wild plant. The storage periods, storage temperature, and germination conditions also affect the germination rate. Conclusion To maintain the seed germination rate, the seed of V. officinalis should be stored in conditions with ventilation and at suitable low temperature. Lower temperature helps to prolong the seed life with relatively high germination rate. Valeriana seed should also be propagated at available temperature conditions in proper seasons.

ABSTRACT

To analyze amino acid and fatty acid of Fructus Broussonetiae . The amino acids of Fructus Broussonetiae were analyzed with automatic amino acid instrument and fatty acids were analyzed with GC MS Computer system. More than 14 amino acids were analyzed and the fatty acid from Fructus Broussonetiae contains 17 compounds, of which 8,11 octadecadienoic acid and Hexadecanoic acid are main components. The abundance of amino acids and unsaturated fatty acid may contribute to the tonic function of Fructus Broussonetiae .
