ABSTRACT

Background: Gastric cancer is a common gastrointestinal tumor. Fatty acids play a vital role in the development of gastric cancer. The function of fatty acids requires the participation of fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs). Aims: To systematically analyze the influence of FABPs family on risk and prognosis of gastric cancer and understand the potential role of FABPs family. Methods: The ONCOMINE database was used to analyze the differential expression of FABPs family member mRNA between gastric cancer and adjacent normal tissue, and the GEPIA database was further used for verification. The relationship between FABPs family member and survival of gastric cancer patients was analyzed. Then The Human Protein Atlas database was used to further analyze the differential expression of FABP family protein in gastric cancer. STRING and DAVID databases were used for protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis and GO, KEGG enrichment analysis. Results: Compared with normal gastric tissue, the expressions of FABP3/4/7 in gastric cancer were significantly down-regulated, while FABP1 expression remained controversial. Survival analysis showed that patients with low expressions of FABP3/4/8 mRNA had a higher overall survival rate. GO analysis showed that FABPs family mainly enriched in biological process, cytoplasm, molecular function change. KEGG enrichment analysis showed that FABPs were mainly involved in PPAR signaling pathway, fat digestion and absorption signaling pathway. Conclusions: FABP3/4/7 can be used as risk markers and FABP3/4/8 as prognostic markers for gastric cancer. The effect of FABPs may be related to the PPAR pathway and lipid metabolism pathway.

ABSTRACT

Objective To examine the sleep status and relevant psychosocial factors in patients with colorectal cancer before surgery and improve their sleep quality. Methods A cross?sectional survey method was used. Participants were 107 cases of patients with colorectal cancer from the Department of Anorectal Surgery in The First Hospital ,which is affiliated with China Medical University. The Athens insomnia scale(AIS),Ham?ilton depression scale(HAMD),Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA),perceived social support scale(PSSS),self?esteem scale(SES),medical cop?ing questionnaire(MCMQ),memorial University of Newfoundland scale of happiness(MUNSH),Eysenck personality questionnaire(EPQ),and Wong?Baker face scale were used to assess preoperative sleep in patients with colorectal cancer and related psychosocial factors. Results Among the 107 cases, there were 24 cases of insomnia, with an insomnia incidence of 22.43%. No statistical differences were found in demographic charac?teristics and clinical characteristics(P>0.05). According to the degree of insomnia, there were significant differences between groups(P<0.05) for depression, anxiety, social support, avoidance, yield, happiness, and EPQ?N. Before the surgery, the degree of depression, anxiety, and EPQ?P had a significant positive effect on the degree of insomnia (P< 0.05). Conclusion The degree of insomnia before surgery in patients with colorectal cancer is closely associated with depression, anxiety, coping styles, social support, and personality characteristics.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the difference of the curative effect between incision-thread-drawing procedure and traditional incision drainage in the treatment of perianal abscess. Methods A total of 150 patients diagnosed with perianal abscess and treated at the first time from June 2015 to June 2016 in our department were selected as the research object in this experiment, who were divided into the observation group(75 cases) and control group(75 cases) according to the surgical method.Patients in the observation group were performed with incision-thread-drawing procedure, while the control group were treated by traditional incision drainage. The overall treatment effect, operation time, postoperative recovery time, hospital stay, hospital costs, wound healing time and postoperative complications between the two groups were observed and compared. Results The difference of the overall treatment effects between two groups were not statistically significant(P>0.05).The operation time, the postoperative recovery time, the hospitalization time and the cost, the time of wound healing of observation group were significantly better than the ones of the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The recurrence rates of anal fistula, abscess and other complications in patients of observation group were significantly lower than the ones of control group. The differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Compared with traditional incision drainage, the incision-thread-drawing procedure is more effective with less complications and lower recurrence rate, which should be the first choice for the treatment of perianal abscess.

ABSTRACT

Objective To systematically assess the relationship between oral administration of aspirin and survival benefit for patients with colorec?tal cancer(CRC)by meta?analysis. Methods Relevant studies were identified through searching PubMed and EMBASE. Random?effects model was derived to composite the pooled hazard ratio for overall mortality and CRC?specific mortality. The subgroup analysis was conducted for included data, and the bias analysis was reported. Results Thirteen studies on aspirin therapy were finally included in this meta?analysis. The overall surviv?al benefit associated with oral administration of aspirin represented an HR of 0.83(95%CI:0.71?0.96). Oral administration of aspirin was also asso?ciated with CRC?specific survival(HR=0.77,95%CI:0.64?0.93). No evidence was observed of an association between prediagnostic aspirin use and CRC overall survival(HR=1.00,95%CI:0.85?1.18)or CRC?specific survival(HR=0.97,95%CI:0.83?1.13). Conclusion These findings provide further indication that post?diagnostic aspirin therapy can improve CRC prognosis.

ABSTRACT

Paget's disease of the breast is an uncommon disorder that accounts for 1% to 3% of all mammary tumors. The incidence of underlying carcinoma associated with Paget's disease has been reported in 82% to 100% of cases. The finding of underlying carcinoma reaches almost 100% when a palpable lump is also present. In this rare case, we described a patient presenting with Paget's disease but no palpable lump. However, we found 11 independent regions which were all invasive ductal carcinoma after the operation. Considering this patient, we should pay more attention to a multifocal and multicentric breast carcinoma associated with Paget's disease. Furthermore, we believe the mammography examination and a modified radical mastectomy are the most appropriate treatments for this population in clinical practice.
