ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the effect and the underlying mechanism of wild chrysanthemum eye drops in the treatment of rabbit evaporative dry eye. Methods:The dry eye model was established by cauterizing the meibomian gland orifices in sixteen New Zealand white rabbits. In the sixth week after the operation, they were divided into four groups treated by wild chrysanthemum eye drops, dextran and hypromellose eye drops, solvent control solution and physiological saline, respectively. Corneal fluorescence stai-ning, rose bengal staining and conjunctival goblet cell density were performed and detected before and after the operation. Results:Be-fore the treatment, no significant difference was found in the tested indices among the four groups (P>0. 05). After the treatment, the fluorescence staining and rose bengal staining in wild chrysanthemum eye drops group were lighter than those in the untreated groups, and the conjunctival goblet cell density was higher than that in the untreated groups(P0.05). Conclusion: Wild chrysanthemum eye drops can alleviate ocular surface inflammation of dry eye in rabbits, which suggests good application prospect in the treatment of dry eye.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To study the effect of dexamethasone (Dex) on expression of aquaporin-1(AQP1) in cultured human trabecular meshwork(HTM) cells METHODS:Reverse transcription combined with polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) was used to detect the expression of AQP1 in cultured HTM cells and those treated by Dex RESULTS:The mRNA of AQP1 expressed in normal HTM cells was 1 643?0 354,while 1 577?0 405,1 117?0 443,0 458?0 301,0 267?0 243 in those treated with Dex for 3 days in concentrations of 10-8mol,5?10-8 mol,10-7 mol,5?10-7mol As the concentrations of Dex increased to≥5?10-8mol,the expression of AQP1 was inhibited(P

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To confirm the efficacy and safety of latanoprost in treating glaucoma.METHODS: In a double blind, randomized control clinical trial, we compared the efficacy and adverse drug reactions of once daily topically applied 0.005% latanoprost with those of twice daily 0.5% timolol for 12 weeks in patients with open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.RESULTS: The study included 46 patients(22 pts.randomized to latanoprost treatment, 24 pts.to timolol) , 46 patients remained at the end of the study.Comparing with baseline diurnal intraocular pressure(IOP) , the IOP reduction(mean±standard deviation) achieved with latanoprost(7.86±2.39) mmHg, (31.1%, P<0.001),and timolol(6.24±2.58)mmHg (24.9%,P<0.001),the difference between the two groups(1.62mmHg) being significant(P<0.01). Two patients treated with latanoprost had foreign body sensation. No other ocular and systemic adverse reactions related to the two drugs were found. CONCLUSION: The results of this study demonstrated that 0.005% latanoprost applied once daily is well tolerated and more effective in reducing IOP than 0.5% timolol applied twice daily. Thus, latanoprost has the potential for becoming one of the ideal antiglaucoma drugs.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To observe the inhibiting effect of Interferon-alpha 1b(IFNa-1b) on proliferation of human tenon capsule fibroblasts. METHODS: Human tenon capsule fibroblasts were cultured in vitro and MTT method was used to detect the inhibiting effect of IFNa-1b on human tenon capsule fibroblasts. RESULTS: There was significant difference in OD values between 10~6IU/ml group(0. 1 109?0. 0 585) and control group(0.2535?0. 0502), the inhibition rate in IFN group was 56.25%. CONCLUSION: IFNa-1b has significant effect on inhibiting proliferation of human tenon capsule fibroblasts.
