ABSTRACT

The present study is a trial for minimizing the oxidative stress that may be one of the risk factors responsible for diabetic complications. For this purpose, different forms of garlic extracts were investigated using diabetic rats. Hyperglycemia was induced in male albino rats by IP injection of streptozotocin [STZ] in a total dose of 50 mg/Kg b.wt. STZ-diabetic rats were treated orally with garlic oil [10 mg/Kg b.wt.], fresh garlic extract [10 ml/Kg b.wt.] and aged garlic exract [800 microl/Kg b.wt.] daily for three weeks. The data revealed that, STZ injection induced a significant increase in plasma glucose level, plasma and liver malondialdehyde [MDA] concentrations. The significant increase in the activities of antioxidant enzyme [total superoxide dismutase [SOD] glutathione peroxidase [GSHPx] and catalase] in liver homogenate was associated with a significant reduction in blood-reduced glutathione [GSH]. The treatment of diabetic rats by different forms of garlic revealed that, aged garlic extract exhibited a more pronounced hypoglycemic and antioxidant effect followed by fresh garlic extract then garlic oil

ABSTRACT

Studies on the clinical, pathological and biochemical changes during the course of an experimental infectious bursitis in chickens were done. Clinical signs including depression, anorexia and deaths were first recorded. The bursa of fabricius were slightly enlarged on the 3rd and 4th days post infection. No precipitins against IBDV could be detected by AGPI. Infected chickens revealed a significant elevation of prothrombin time, alanine aminotransferase, creatinine and uric acid. Other parameters, like serum total proteins, alkaline phosphatase, total cholesterol and potassium levels, were declined

ABSTRACT

Amino acids pattern were determined in seminal plasma of two groups of buffalo. There is a significant difference [P<0.01] between the amino acids pattern of the two groups of buffalo bulls [3 and 10 years old]. It was found that the glutamic acid is the major amino acid present in buffalo seminal plasma. The analysis revealed that histidine, serine and methionine were significantly [P<0.05] correlated with the percentage of live sperm [r=-0.54; -0.65 and -0.57 respectively]. The total proteins were also assayed. It was found that the total proteins were significantly higher in young [Group 1] than in old buffalo [Group 2]. The total proteins concentration were significantly correlated with the percentage of motile spermatozoa and the percentage of live sperm
