ABSTRACT

The histopathological changes in gills and liver of the cichlid Fish Tilapia zillii were studied after exposure to two sublethal concentrations of the organophosphate insecticide chlorpyrifos for 90 days. Gills exposed to 1.7 micro g chlorpyrifos/1 revealed dilation of the blood vessels, tilangectasia in the secondary lamellae with slight prolifertive changes of the epithelial covering. At 3.6 micro g chlorpyrifos/1 a marked proliferative changes were found in the epithelium covering secondary lamellae and sometimes appeared hypertrophied with a marked increase in the number of mucus glands. There were no significant alterations in liver at the early stages of exposure to the sublethal concentrations of chlorpyrifos. Liver at 1.7 micro g/l showed vacuolar degeneration of hepatocytes together with activation of pancreatic acini. The hepatocytes appeared vacuolated and some of them were necrotized at 3.6 micro g chlorpyrifos/1

ABSTRACT

A total of 4000 samples were collected from buffalo carcasses, each from the left ventricle of the heart, esophagus and the t and inous insertion of the diaphragmatic pillars. Samples were subjected to macro- and microscopical examinations. Sarcocysts were found in 773 out of 2000 [38.65%] male carcasses under 2 years, 2 out of 3 [66.66%] female carcasses under 2 years and 1839 out of 1997 [92.08%] female carcasses over 5 years. Macrocysts were not found in the heart samples, while 36% 84% of the diaphragmatic and esophageal samples were infected. Microcysts were found in 62%, 77% and 98% of heart, diaphragmatic and esophageal samples. The degree of infection among the examined samples were mentioned
