ABSTRACT

The techniques of cataract extraction in children improved over the years. The most popular nowadays, are pars-plana lensectomy and irrigation aspiration techniques. Aphakic correction modalities include spectacles, contact lenses, epikeratophakia and intraocular lenses. Each of these modalities has its advantages and disadvantages. Primary intraocular lens [IOL] implantation in children is a promising method for aphakic correction in children. In this study, intraocular lens implantation in 20 children with uniocular traumatic cataract were evaluated. Good visual acuity was achieved in a large proportion of the children despite associated corneal opacities and several intraoperative difficulties and postoperative complications. This study suggests that intraocular lens implantation may have a major role in management of monocular cataracts in children

ABSTRACT

Patients with uncontrolled open-angle glaucoma on maximal tolerable treatment were treated with argon laser to the trabecular meshwork. Forty eyes [30 patients - 10 patients had bilateral open angle glaucoma]. These patients were divided into 4 groups. The technique of argon laser therapy is different in each group of eyes. Follow up of intraocular pressure and field changes for 6 months for each group was performed to compare between various techniques

ABSTRACT

The occurrence of extra-ocular muscle imbalance after scleral buckling procedures is of concern to retinal surgeons, heterophoria and heterotropia have been reported but there is no conclusive documentation regarding the causes of the muscle imbalance. The incidence of muscle imbalance is variable, Kanski et al. [1973] documented that disgnificant muscle imbalance was 6.3% while Mets and Co workers in 1985 found that muscle imbalance had occurred in 56.6%
